Small Businesses: Use Your Bookkeeper to Grow

Written by Matt Roberge | Nov 3, 2015 2:00:00 PM

Due to continuous software improvements, bookkeeping has become fairly automated, but it can be frustrating to navigate the software.  Both our clients and those of various bookkeeping software products find that it's easier to leave the liability for their books to trusted professionals, rather than risk penalties, or worse, running out of cash and driving their business into the ground. But what does that mean for the average business owner?

Bookkeeping has become more of a consulting industry. It's a solution for overwhelmed managers who should be focusing on the growth of the company, rather than spending their time managing books. The true value of bookkeeping is that it can be a tool you can use to grow your business.

We Want To Help You Grow Your Small Business

Your bookkeeping is a valuable business tool that you can use to grow your business. Owners often need to be shown how bookkeeping can be of value to them. Below is a brief rundown of finding value in a bookkeeping system.

Bookkeeping needs to be updated: It is really hard to find value in something that is completely out-of-date. The first step in finding value in your bookkeeping is bringing and keeping it current.

Define meaningful metrics: Everybody's business is unique and therefore each bookkeeping system needs to be tailored to those specific needs. Identify what your key performance indicators (KPIs) are and structure your bookkeeping system around presenting information for them.

Look forward not backward: Business owners get so hung up on looking at past financials. By the time they get around to updating the books and analyzing the information, they are looking at numbers that are too old to matter. Don't get hung up on looking backward; instead become obsessed with looking forward in your business. Take your updated bookkeeping system with real-time reporting on your key metrics and use it to forecast into the future. That is what I call using your bookkeeping system as a tool.

Ask Our Customers What They Think

Take a look at our customer reviews on our Facebook page. Last, before you sign up for our bookkeeping services, ask us for a few references from our current customers. We would be happy to provide you with several references and, if you'd like, we can provide a reference from a current customer in your industry.

We would really love the opportunity to become your bookkeeper in Salt Lake City.
