I recently read an advertisement from a bookkeeping service that "guaranteed the lowest price." I thought to myself, "How can we compete with that?" Well not only can you compete with this marketing strategy, you can defeat it. What would be your strategy though? Here is ours and it is not price related.
Price doesn't matter
I will straight up tell any current client or potential client that we are not the cheapest bookkeeping service out there. Why? Because I know we are not, but I also feel that it doesn't matter. I feel that price is not the most influential factor in the decision process of purchasing certain products and services. If you needed a lawyer would you look for the cheapest rate and then hire them no matter what? I doubt it; I know I wouldn't? But what influences your decision more than price?
Service, experience and expertise do matter
People are willing to pay a premium for an excellent product or service, period. If there is a need that you can fill with exactly what your customers are looking for they will pay you more money than your competitors who can't completely fulfill that need. When it comes to hiring a bookkeeper I would be looking for someone that is experienced, has expertise with your specific business industry and has a proven track record of excellent customer service.
Finding some common ground
Lastly, we rely on being ourselves. I hope that our website portrays that we are into the outdoors and that we have lives outside of the office. We like to work with those people that share similar interests to us and have a life outside of their business.
What factors do you consider other than price when making a purchase decision?
